Brighton Academy is in its 7th year of offering classes to the homeschooling community of Kansas City. Teachers at Brighton are Christians who are experts in their fields. The focus of Brighton is to keep academic standards high by assisting parents in specific areas of need in a Christ-centered environment. Parents at Brighton love the motivation and instruction their children receive as they enjoy learning in an environment that promotes excellence. Families may choose ONLY the classes needed. Not an Enrichment Program, our classes cover academic subjects and are coupled with assigned homework for full mastery of the course. Located at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Southern Overland park, we offer classes for all grades. Brighton meets twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays. Brighton has many leadership opportunities for the students as it hosts many community service projects, holiday celebrations, outings, and field trips.

Opportunities at Brighton include: Student Council, Yearbook Committee, Newspaper staff “The Brighton Star”, School Pictures, Service Projects throughout the year, Field Trips, Speech/Debate Competition, Science Fair, Standardized testing and ACT Prep, Used Book Swap, Fun Events such as Hayride, Holiday Celebrations, Field Day, Skating Parties, Movie nights, Worlds of Fun Day, and an online community through our new website.

Registration for 2012-2013 homeschool band is open at Brighton Academy! Band I students (gr. 4-6) are taught music fundamentals playing the recorder & exploring band instruments during the fall semester. Students acquire instruments over the holiday break and begin instrumental band class spring semester. Band II (for those with one year of band experience. gr. 5-8) combines in-class group playing with online learning. Private lessons (summer & school year) are available and parent references available on request.

The band program is led by Cyndi Gernhart (cyndigernhartatbrightonacademydotnet), a home school mom with a Masters in Music Education. In addition to band, the Brighton Music Department will also be offering music classes in guitar, songwriting & show choir for grades 8-12.
