High school students can have their tuition waived on certain classes at all Kansas Community Colleges and Technical Schools.

Governor Brownback signed Senate Bill 155 into law this summer with the hopes that this will enable a seamless transition into a postsecondary technically-related program. While this tuition waiver focuses on classes leading to a technical career, some general education classes are also included in the program.

A sampling of classes available to students through this waiver are:

• AUTO 125 – Introduction to Automotive Shop Practices

• HMGT 120 – Food Service Sanitation

• HVAC 121 – Basic Principles of HVAC

• ARCH 120 – Introduction to Architecture

• CDTP 135 – Desktop Photo Manipulation I: Photoshop

• FASH 121 – Fashion Fundamentals

• BIOL 110 – Nutrition for Life

We’ve developed a FAQ page – http://www.jccc.edu/admissions/high-school/index.html – to assist parents with enrollment related questions. You’ll find links to our application for admission, class search, enrollment dates and other important sites.

It is important to note that students are still responsible for buying textbooks and supplies for the class and that the courses they enroll in will be graded and placed on a permanent transcript. There is no list of courses eligible for this waiver. I encourage you to search our class schedule (the link is on the FAQ page) for classes you’re interested in and see if it has “Kansas Senate Bill 155” noted.

Spring classes begin mid-January. Enrollment for summer and fall begins in April.

Feel free to call/email with questions.
