We are dedicated to cultivating a diverse and gifted team of young influencers who are passionate about changing the world around them with Christ-centered action. Through spiritual encouragement, focused mentorship, and practical involvement, our team members gain experience and develop skills which will be invaluable through college and beyond.

The Fine Print

The 2018 Midwest Parent Educators Conference will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 6th and 7th, and MPEK and YLT members will attend a required afternoon/evening of orientation, setup, and preparation on Thursday, April 5th.

While full-time participation on the 6th and 7th is not a prerequisite for selection, please note that applicants who are available both days will likely be considered first for their top choices of areas of service.

YLT and MPEK volunteers will also attend a mandatory  all-day retreat on March 31, 2018. Details regarding the retreat will be sent to applicants upon their selection.

For questions regarding these commitments, please contact MollydotClaxtonatMidwestParentEducatorsdotorg.

Our Roles and Responsibilities

This diverse team has the opportunity to work with and learn from the experienced professionals and skilled coordinators who produce the annual Midwest Parent Educators conference. During the two days of the event, the YLT serves in a variety of capacities while gaining skills and experience.

Read below to find out where your specific gifts might be used best:

Greeters:

YLT members serving as greeters are selected for their friendly and outgoing personalities as well as their abilities to assist conference guests with any inquiry that may arise. Greeters will welcome guests as they arrive at the conference and be available to offer initial direction and information. This position is particularly important as greeters will be the first individuals to interact with families attending the conference and will even be the first impression of homeschoolers for some of our guests.

Registration Representatives:

If you are excellent with customer service and administrative detail, this position is for you! These representatives will be responsible for registering conference attendees, helping guests complete the MPE membership process, and assisting with other clerical details. Team members will be selected for this position based on their abilities to multitask, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and work quickly with a positive attitude.

Speaker /Workshop Hosts:

These roles are multi-faceted and involve public speaking, guest relations, and logistical management. Speaker /workshop hosts will be responsible for ensuring cleanliness and orderliness of their assigned room and welcoming the speaker to make sure that he/she has anything needed. The host will also greet workshop attendees and will be responsible to introduce the speaker, conclude the workshop, and run the recording equipment set up in the room. Public speaking skills are important for this position, and a helpful and friendly attitude is essential!

Vendor Hall Hosts:

If you are enthusiastic and hospitable people-person, you’ll be perfect for this role! YLT members in this position are responsible for making our vendors feel welcomed and comfortable during their long days at their booths. Hosts will visit vendors throughout their shifts to offer refreshments and will be available to assist with other small tasks the vendors may request such as watching their table while they step away for a break or helping to move something in their display.

Tech Assistants:

YLT members in this role will work with the MPE tech coordinator to manage AV equipment throughout the conference and assist with any other technology-related responsibilities. Experience with AV work is a plus for this position, and enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are both essential.

Vendor Relations Assistants:

These team members will assist our vendor coordinator with vendor registration, vendor hall set-up, and other vendor-related logistical details. Thursday evening/Friday morning availability is necessary. Team members will be selected for this position based on a servant attitude, flexibility in helping where needed, and attention to detail.
