Day Under the Dome to highlight homeschool freedoms

Day Under the Dome 2015

This guest post highlights the importance of the upcoming “Day Under the Dome” homeschool event, hosted by the Christian Home Educators Confederation of Kansas (CHECK). If you’re looking to promote your sports group, support group or homeschooling curriculum with an informational booth, contact Jeff Gorman at dutd2015booth@kansashomeschool.org.

Greetings, homeschooling families. I am Jeff Gorman, the new Chairman of the CHECK board. I wanted to formally invite you to the Day Under the Dome homeschool event in Topeka hosted by CHECK.

This year we have quite an agenda lined out for homeschooling families, and we are excited to see you there. We invite you to take this opportunity to speak to your legislator and share your story of homeschooling and what this freedom has meant to your family.

On Thursday, Feb. 19, CHECK is inviting all homeschool families to the 2015 Day Under the Dome homeschooling event at the Topeka capitol building. The event’s purpose is to celebrate our homeschooling freedom in Kansas and educate legislators regarding homeschooling in our wonderful state.

We’ll feature special music and entertainment by homeschool students, organizations sharing what is available in our state for homeschool families, as well as special guests like Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.

State leaders from area support groups will be available to discuss homeschooling issues and answer any questions. They are:

Learn from groups such as American Heritage Girls, Trail Life USA, Wichita Homeschool Warriors Robotics, Classical Conversations, Wichita Defenders athletics, and others.

We’re working on a special presentation in the legislative session recognizing homeschoolers’ achievements. Legislators will be on the second floor rotunda, visiting with families throughout the day, so please be ready to share your experience.

The day’s agenda so far:

  • 11 a.m. – Homeschool Groups Displays Open
  • 11:30 a.m. – Welcome from Secretary of State Kris Kobach
  • 11:35 a.m. – Cornerstone Choir & Music from Homeschool Families

  • 12:35 p.m. – Continued Music by Cornerstone’s Deo Gloria Choir
  • 1 p.m. – Recognition of Homeschool Achievement in Session (unconfirmed)
  • 2 p.m. – Event Ends

We hope to see you there!
