Children’s Mercy Hearing and Speech Department is offering a research-based prereading program called Rhyming to Reading (for children at least 4 years who have not entered 1st grade). It teaches early reading skills e.g. rhyming, sentence awareness, the sounds letters make and how to sound out words.

Small group classes are once a week for an hour, for 6-9 weeks. Classes occur spring, summer and fall at Children’s Mercy Hearing and Speech College Boulevard Clinic and at Children’s Mercy North. There is a fee for children to participate in the pre-test and the program. Please contact Stephanie Taylor at 816-460-1011 or sptaylor@cmh.edu for more info.
