Tonya Wiley serves as our Women’s Encouragement Day co-coordinator. Registration is now open until Jan. 15!
When did you begin serving?
I volunteered for this in the spring of 2014, as the Lord opened the door for me to be able to. I love to serve in the community of homeschoolers!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I truly enjoy working with a tremendous leadership team filled with women who love the Lord and love to encourage other homeschool moms. I also love to encourage new moms in their adventures of homeschooling.
Any surprises/challenges about your MPE role?
The biggest surprise, at this point, is how quickly we are growing. Since the beginning of this event of 20+ moms to now, almost nine years later, we are close to 300! It is a great challenge to have!
Tell us about your family.
Doug is my wonderful husband and we have been married 23 years. We have six children: Abigail, Loran, Emily, Anna, Levi and Lydia. We have graduated two with MPE and look forward to four more! 🙂
We live out in the country in Bonner Springs, Kansas, and have a family business that keeps us all busy. On our farm, True Vine Ranch, we grow and sell large, lovely blueberry plants, so that homeowners can grow their own blueberries all across the country.
[Editor’s note: Check out their family business at www.truevineranch.com.]
We worship at Forerunner Christian Fellowship and enjoy connecting with our family and friends there.
Why did you begin homeschooling, and why is it important to you now?
Doug and I decided to homeschool before we ever had children because we wanted to be the ones teaching and raising our children. We wanted to build their character on a firm foundation.
I love homeschooling because it gives me the opportunity to teach, train and love my children in a focused way and allows me more time to point them towards Jesus and see them grow in loving the Lord with all of their hearts, their minds and their strength.
How would you encourage MPE families in their homeschool journeys?
One of the most important things I like to encourage other homeschooling families is that God is the Author of their stories…so remember…Every homeschool family is different, because God is writing every one of those stories.
Lean into Him and listen for what your homeschool story is supposed to be!
