Classical Conversations - Various Locations

Classical Conversations desires to lead the home-centered education movement by equipping parents and students with the classical tools of learning. These “lost tools” reignite a love of learning and enable students to tackle any subject with confidence. Children ages 4-12 can participate in the Foundations program while accompanied by their parent. Typically meeting from 9am to noon one day a week, a trained tutor creatively introduces and leads the classroom time. In addition to the memory work, students also participate in fine arts, have an opportunity to practice oral presentation skills, and participate in hands-on science activities. Students, parents, and tutors develop precious relationships, and parents love the classical academic focus. Beginning at age 9, students can enroll in the Essentials Program. A trained tutor strengthens the “essential” subjects of language structure, writing, and arithmetic while parent-teachers work with their students to master the material at home the other four days each week. The Essentials Program is in addition to the Foundations Program and generally meets from 1 to 3 PM. In the Challenge program (for students 12 years old through high school graduation) teens wield the classical tools to reason, debate, create, and express themselves in a persuasive and articulate manner. They study six strands of interconnected information including literature studies and composition writing, logic, research, reasoning, and debate. The CC Plus program is a partnership with Southeastern University. Students in Challenge levels II, III, and IV can, for an added fee, earn college credit for their high school work. KC Connected Homeschool - South Kansas City, MO

KC Connected Homeschool meets in South Kansas City on Mondays.  It is a full-day program that involves kids and parents – we are not a drop-off program.  Parents work together to provide a quality education to the children in our families.  We are committed to building one another up as we reach for the goal of doing what God created us to do – raising and educating our children.  KCCH exists to do three things:  EQUIP, EMPOWER, ENGAGE.  Our programming includes instruction in 5 main areas:  Science, Arts, Fitness, Rotating Special Interest Academics, and Language Arts.  This year, we are offering formal programming for ages 6-15 (roughly grades 1-8), and loosely structured childcare for younger siblings.  Our instruction leans toward Classical and Charlotte Mason-styled approaches, but is not exclusive any one approach.  For more information, Call Christa 816-770-6131 or visit www.kcconnectedhomeschool.com

Shema Homeschool Co-op - Tonganoxie, KS

Shema Homeschool Co-op is a parent-led, educational and enrichment opportunity for Christian families that choose to home educate their children! We meet on Tuesdays at West Haven Baptist Church in Tonganoxie, from 9am – Noon, where students rotate through 4 classes. Siblings of students are also welcome to attend, as we have rooms for infants, toddlers, Preschool and Pre-K as well! A parent/guardian stays on-site and is scheduled to serve in a classroom based on their preferences in 3 out of the 4 class periods, which allows one class period for rest and fellowship with other parents/guardians! Class choices are based on the families’ preferences. All students take a Bible class, and a Science class and two elective classes, which are determined once a year amongst the parents that have students attending. Previous classes have included: Art, PE, Spanish, Historical Mysteries, Yearbook, Graphic Design, Science Presentations, Crafting, Finances, Music, Theater, and more! This allows the parent to help influence class choices based on what their student needs, while also giving the opportunity to lead teach a class they might be passionate about. Families in Shema also have many opportunities to socialize, gain friendships and build fellowship amongst the parents with Park dates, Fieldtrips, Mom’s Night out, and more! Our ultimate goal is to build real Christian community while also learning together in a group dynamic, once a week. Fees are simple: $75 Per family, per semester.

The Animation Course is excited to connect with you about a class opportunity for your families! We are taking registrations right now for our Online Animation and Drawing Classes– with Spring, Summer and Fall Sessions! Founder and Teacher, Chad Stewart, has been an animator for over 30 years, working on films such as Tarzan, Emperor’s New Groove, and Polar Express, etc. Now he brings his wide experience—both from the professional animation field and from being an expert homeschooling dad—into teaching students ages 11-18 about this fascinating art form. As our 16-year homeschool journey has ended, we know how important it is to find great online classes, so we are excited to offer this instruction in art, which might enrich your families’ homeschooling endeavors! Each student is able to interact directly with Chad, and also receives personalized video feedback from industry professionals on every weekly assignment. Each student attends a class full of students that are just like them. Students interact with real people, receive encouragement, and are given personal guidance. One Mind Good Press - Online

One Mind Good Press offers two useful books for English studies in the upper levels by veteran teacher and theatrical dramaturge Gideon Rappaport, Ph.D.:

APPRECIATING SHAKESPEARE makes easily available the essential tools for understanding and enjoying Shakespeare’s plays and poems, which means experiencing the deep and thrilling meanings of his works. Part 1 offers the kinds of background knowledge–about Shakespeare’s life, language, poetic and dramatic techniques, theatrical context, and historical and cultural background–that help you and your students to appreciate Shakespeare’s works. Part 2 offers short essays on twenty-two plays, pointing readers to the universally meaningful heart of each and illuminating themes often hidden or misrepresented in many stage and screen productions and critical writings. There is also a chapter on a selection of the sonnets. Read more and see the full table of contents at www.onemindgoodpress.com.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’S HAMLET is a thoroughly annotated edition that aims at nothing less than a radical restoration of the meaning of “Hamlet” after two centuries of theatrical misinterpretation and academic misreading. With text on the left and notes directly to the right, this edition offers the teacher everything necessary to teaching the meaning of Hamlet’s moral and spiritual journey, intended by Shakespeare but so often obscured by modern writing about the play.

Order through your local bookstore or online at Barnes & Noble or Amazon:
